Page Dark Mode: Dark Backgrounds on Any Site, or Follow Your Device

Page Dark Mode: Dark Backgrounds on Any Site, or Follow Your Device

A bright white page at night is hard to read, and plenty of sites still don't offer a dark theme. Reader Mode has always had its own dark theme — but that only helps once you've switched into the reader.

FocusFlow v2.11.0 adds Page Dark Mode (Pro): dark backgrounds and light text on the web pages you visit, without leaving the page — or set it to System and let your device decide.

🌙 Two Modes: Dark or System

  • Dark keeps every page dark, all the time.
  • System follows your device's light/dark setting. When your device switches to dark, your pages follow straight away, and they go back to light when your device does.

🎨 What It Changes, and What It Leaves Alone

Page Dark Mode repaints the page itself with one dark palette — the same Dark values Reader Mode uses:

  • Background #121212, with a slightly lighter #1E1E1E for text fields and buttons.
  • Text #E8E8E8, measured at a 15.3:1 contrast ratio against the background.
  • Links #78A9FF, measured at 8.0:1 against the background.

It recolours the page; it doesn't invert it. So:

  • Images and video are left as they are. Photos, video, canvas drawings and SVG graphics keep their real colours — no negative-looking pictures.
  • Icons keep their colour, so a red warning icon is still red.
  • Reader Mode keeps its own theme. When you open the reader it uses its own themes, and the page goes back to Page Dark Mode when you close it.
  • Visual Filters still work on top of it, because Page Dark Mode doesn't use a filter to darken the page.

While Page Dark Mode is on it sets the page's text colours itself, because light-page text colours would be unreadable on a dark background.

🖱️ How to Turn It On

  1. Open the FocusFlow popup → click Advanced Settings.
  2. Switch to the Visual Aids tab.
  3. Turn on Page Dark Mode, then pick Dark or System.

🔒 Private by Design

Page Dark Mode runs entirely in your browser. It doesn't send the pages you visit anywhere — like all of FocusFlow's reading aids, it works on your device.
