When you install a browser extension, you're trusting it with access to your browsing activity. Most accessibility tools require permissions that could compromise your privacy — tracking usage data, sending analytics, or storing your preferences on remote servers.
FocusFlow takes a different approach: the reading tools work entirely on your device, and nothing is collected about what you read. There is no telemetry, no analytics beacon, and no background phoning home. The handful of network calls the extension can make are ones you trigger yourself — or opt into.
Why Privacy Matters in Accessibility Tools
People who use accessibility extensions often rely on them across every website they visit — from banking portals and medical records to personal emails and social media. That means an accessibility extension sees everything you read online.
This makes privacy not just a nice-to-have, but a fundamental requirement. Unfortunately, many popular extensions:
- Send anonymous "usage analytics" to third-party servers
- Require account creation to sync settings
- Use cloud storage to save your preferences
- Include tracking pixels or telemetry scripts
FocusFlow was built with one non-negotiable principle: no telemetry, ever. We do not collect usage data, and the free reading tools never need the network at all.
How FocusFlow Protects Your Privacy
Everything Stays Local by Default
All of your FocusFlow settings — font preferences, reading ruler configuration, color overlays, per-site controls, saved profiles, reading list and reading analytics — live in your browser's own local storage (chrome.storage.local). The free reading tools (typography, reading ruler, color overlays, Reader Mode, and system-voice Text to Speech) run fully offline. Uninstalling the extension removes that data with it.
No Account Needed to Read
You don't need to create an account to use FocusFlow's reading tools. Install it, configure it, and start reading — that's it.
Two things are opt-in and clearly marked as such:
- FocusFlow Pro is unlocked with a license key you activate yourself.
- Settings sync (Pro) lets you sign in with Google so your settings, reading list, and to-dos follow you between devices. It is off until you turn it on, and turning it off keeps everything local again.
Neither is required, and neither changes how the free reading tools behave.
No Analytics or Tracking
The FocusFlow extension contains zero analytics scripts. No Google Analytics. No Mixpanel. No telemetry. No "anonymous" usage data. We don't know how many times you toggle the reading ruler or which fonts you prefer — and we want to keep it that way.
A note on this website: the extension is analytics-free, full stop. Our marketing site (focusflowapp.in) uses privacy-friendly, consent-based Google Analytics — it loads only if you accept the cookie banner, with advertising and ad-personalization turned off and IP addresses anonymized. It's completely separate from the extension and never sees anything you do inside it. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
No Webfont Requests, No Background Calls
FocusFlow makes no analytics, tracking, or telemetry requests whatsoever. All eight typefaces — OpenDyslexic, Lexend, Atkinson Hyperlegible, Andika, Comic Neue, Inter, Open Sans and Roboto — are bundled with the extension, so applying a font to a page makes no request to Google Fonts or any other CDN. It doesn't phone home, and it doesn't check for feature flags from a remote server.
Every network call the extension can make is triggered by you, and only these exist:
| Call | What triggers it |
|---|---|
| AI Reading Assistant (define / simplify / summarize) | You select text and pick an AI action — Pro |
| License activate / validate / deactivate | You click the button in the licensing card |
| Settings sync | You turn sync on and sign in — Pro, opt-in |
| Feedback / bug report | You submit the form |
| Uninstall survey | Your browser opens it when you remove the extension |
Your license key always travels in a request header, never in a URL, so it can't end up in server access logs.
Minimal Permissions
FocusFlow only requests the permissions it absolutely needs to function. It doesn't ask for access to your browsing history, bookmarks, or downloads. The extension operates within the narrowest possible permission scope.
Privacy Compared to Other Accessibility Extensions

| Account required to read | No | Often yes |
| Analytics/tracking | None | Usually included |

Open and Transparent
We believe accessibility tools should be trustworthy by design. FocusFlow's approach to privacy isn't buried in a lengthy terms-of-service document — it's a core product feature. You can read our full Privacy Policy to see exactly what we do (and don't do) with your data.
Your Reading, Your Data
Accessibility should never come at the cost of privacy. With FocusFlow, you get powerful reading tools — typography tuning, color overlays, reading rulers, spotlight focus, and more — with no tracking, no telemetry, and no account needed to read.
